G-FORCE™ Taking This Veterans Day Message To Heart – Gig Line 16

Megan Thatford of Minot Marketing Communications forwarded a link to me from a blog post by Frank Strong of Sword and the Script Media.

Megan is an enthusiastic supporter of Veteran efforts in Boston like Massachusetts Fallen Heroes. Frank is a military veteran and media guy.

The blog’s message hit home.

It’s been a long time since I was active duty. For many of those years, my veteran status rarely came up and, when it did, it was not of any particular significance. Fast forward to the early 2000’s and beyond and I started receiving a lot of “thanks for your (my) service”. I’ve never felt the need to be thanked. The military was good to me and helped me secure an education and a great job after I separated.

It’s my impression those who were thanking me were really just trying to find a way to thank those who had served in Iraq and Afghanistan. It’s our longest war and has taken a heavy toll on that generation and the country at large.

Post Vietnam through today we’ve gone from disdain to disinterest to, finally and thankfully, appreciation of our veterans – young and old. There’s still more work to do.

My Veterans Day promise – I plan to be a better veteran.

I’ve included the article here. Enjoy.

Jack
